Introduction

A Teaching faculty member is a mentor whose prime concern would be of moulding the next generation to compete in today’s challenging corporate world; we, the teaching community, are in need to necessitate the pedagogical values, action, and passion that makes the difference to experience a fair workplace environment of high dignity and respect that this noble profession will ensure.

   Purpose of the Code


The below given Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers applies to all the teaching faculty members of SMSCAS. Its purpose is multiple:

  • To enact dignity and respect among faculty, the Code of Professional Conduct supports guiding an ethical and respectful pavement.
  • To educate the teaching community to understand the expectations those arise upon the accountability of the teaching profession.
  • It is vital to exercise fixed functions of teaching with moral-ethical values.

    Code of Conduct

  • Every Teacher shall be caring, fair and committed to the best interests of the students entrusted to their care, and seek to motivate, inspire the students to achieve success.
  • Every Teacher shall acknowledge and respect the uniqueness, individuality and specific needs of the students and promote their holistic development.
  • Every Teacher shall be committed to equality, inclusion, respecting and accommodating diversity including those differences arising out of gender, civil status, family status,      sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, and any further grounds as may be referenced in equality legislation of the Indian      Constitution
  • Every Teacher shall seek to develop positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, college management, and others in the college community, that are      characterized by professional integrity and judgment.
  • Every Teacher shall discharge his/her duties efficiently and diligently to match with the academic standards and performance norms laid down by the College Management      from time to time.
  • Every Teacher shall update his/her knowledge and skills to equip himself/herself professionally for the proper discharge of duties assigned to him/her.
  • Every Teacher shall conduct himself/herself with absolute dignity and decorum in his/her dealing with the superiors, colleagues and students every time.
  • No teacher shall absent himself/herself from duties at any time without prior permission from higher-ups. Prior approval in writing should be obtained before proceeding on      leave. In case of illness or emergency, inform the Head without undue delay.
  • Do not abuse leave concessions. Report your resumption of duty promptly.
  • Every Teacher shall respect the privacy of others and the confidentiality of information gained in the course of teaching, unless a legal imperative requires disclosure or there      is a legitimate concern for the wellbeing of an individual
  • Every Teacher shall represent themselves, their professional status, qualifications, and experience honestly.
  • Every Teacher shall avoid conflict between their professional work and private interests which could reasonably be deemed to impact negatively on students.
  • Ensure that any communication with students, colleagues, parents, college management and others are appropriate, including communication via electronic media, such as      email, texting, and social networking sites.
  • Teachers have to maintain the Teaching plan and Teaching Content and get it checked from HoD and endorsed through the Principal.
  • Teachers have to report institution by 9:15am every day and follow the time table and events as per the Academic Calendar of the College.
  • Teachers should prepare the Teaching plan at the starting of the Semester and its execution should be observed.
  • Teachers shall be expected to complete the internal assessment evaluation of the subjects and to upload the same in the LMS on time.
  • Teachers shall be the mentor for their assigned mentees and shall help them to furnish their responsibilities as a student in a proper manner.
  • To ensure the holistic development of the students, teachers should focus on the co-curricular as well as the extracurricular activities.
  • Teachers, who have been given the responsibility of either being a member or a convener of the institutional committees, should attend or conduct the meetings of the       respective committees and should maintain the record of the same updated.
  • Teachers should make proper adjustment of the lectures and other committee responsibilities before applying for leave.
  • No teacher shall accept any honorary or other assignment given to him/her by any external agency without the prior permission of the College Management.
  • No teacher shall associate with any political party or take part in any other organizational actively, which is not inline with the duties and ethics of the teaching profession.
  • No teacher shall attempt to bring any political or outside pressure on his/her superior authorities in respect of service matters.
  • No teacher shall participate in any strike or demonstration and /or indulge in any criticism of College Management policy or of the Government for any reason whatsoever.
  • No teacher shall act in any manner that violates the norms of decency or morality in his/her conduct or behaviour inside and outside the College Campus.
  • No teacher shall incite, provoke or instigate any students or any other member of the staff into any form of action against the College Management, or that seeks to disrupt      the academic activities of the College.
  • No teacher shall by act or deed degrade, harass or insult any other person for any reason whatsoever or act in a manner unbecoming of the teaching profession.
  • Every teacher in the service of the College shall at all the time strive for academic excellence in the discharge of his/her duties and conduct himself/herself in the manner of a      perfect role model for others to emulate.
  • The Board of Management, at its sole discretion can provide an opportunity to the teaching staff for presenting his/her case through a personal hearing before taking a final      decision. The decision of the College Management will be final and binding and will not be subject to any appeal to any individual or forum.
  • Do not use the facilities of the institution privately, for gain.
  • Do not discriminate on grounds of ability, race, colour or creed.
  • The meeting of deadlines must be given priority, and thoroughness in the preparation of required documents is crucial.
  • Professional growth is absolutely necessary and must be given priority.
  • Devote full working time during the institution premise working time; teaching effort and time on task are essential for success.
  • It is necessary to respect the functional superiority of those set in authority over you
  • No teacher should neither allow other employment/ teacher to impair the effectiveness of your professional service, nor permit commercial exploitation of your professional      position.
  • Teacher shall seek to establish cordial relations with parents/ guardians;
  • Teacher should provide information regularly to parents regarding the attainments and shortfalls of the wards;
  • Teacher shall refrain from doing any thing which may undermine students confidence in their parents or guardians
  • Teacher should strive to develop the educational institution as a community and human resource development centre providing knowledge and information and developing      skills and attitudes needed for such development;
  • Teacher shall participate in programmes of professional growth like in-service education and training, seminars, symposia workshops, conferences, self study etc;
  • Teacher shall avoid making derogatory statements about colleagues especially in the presence of pupils, other teachers, official or parents;
  • Teacher should cooperate with the head of the institution and colleagues in and outside the institution in both curricular and co- curricular activities;
  • Teacher should accept as a professional the individual responsibility of reporting to the concerned authorities in an appropriate manner all mattes that are considered to be      prejudicial to the interests of the students and the development of the institution.
  • Teacher shall take membership of professional organizations treating it as a professional responsibility;
  • Teacher shall participate as a matter of right in the formulation of policies and programmes of professional organizations and contribute to their strength, unity and solidarity;
  • Teacher should function within the framework of the Constitution of the organization concerned.
